Multnomah County Gun Law Challenged In Court » News » Opb

Law named to casino location board | Long Island Business News

All 730,000 people in the county are now under ourthumb. Whether the gun ordinance applies in the cities is a critical question for both law enforcement and for gun owners. Thats because more than 95 percent of the people in Multnomah County also live in a city like Portland, Fairview orGresham. Paul Diller, a professor of law at Willamette University who studies local governments, says the case raises an interestingquestion. I cant think of a precedent where county and city authority have clashed likethis. Diller says the Oregon Constitution gives both cities and counties the right to self-rule.

With a few exceptions, Multnomah County has banned "open carry," the practice of openly carrying a gun in public. The New York State Gaming Commission on Monday tapped Long Island Association President and CEO Kevin Law to serve on its Gaming Facility Location Board , joining Hofstra University President Stuart Rabinowitz and three non-Islanders on the five-member panel. Dennis Glazer, a retired partner of Manhattan law firm Davis Polk & Warwell, was also added to the board Monday, joining former Director of New York State Operations Paul Francis and former New York City Comptroller Bill Thompson. The board will be responsible for evaluating casino applications and making selections of who is eligible to apply for a commercial gaming license in New York State, according to a state press release.
